NYCC day one

My first day at the New York Comic-Con was a pleasant whirlwind, highlighted by meeting for the first time many of the Marvel editors and marketing people I work with regularly. I was delighted to spot and introduce myself to Tom DeFalco, and thanked him for writing the fun Li’l Benjy strips for me. And after so many months of working with editors Nate Cosby, Jordan D. White, and Steve Wacker, I finally got to shake their hands and talk to them in person! I also met the fantastic fangirls of Fantastic Fangirls, and Garrett Martin of Shazhmmm. Paul had his first Marvel signing and enjoyed sitting next to David Lafuente, artist of the Patsy Walker: Hellcat mini. Meanwhile, I chatted with Jamie McKelvie (a long-time internet acquaintance finally met) and his writer on Phonogram, Kieron Gillen.

After finding coffee and fighting off complete exhaustion, Paul and I went out to dinner with Fred Van Lente, Greg Pak, X-Men Noir artist Dennis Calero, his awesome wife, illustrator Kristin Sorra, and Dennis’ assistants. Fed and liquored, we staggered over to the Marvel get together and drank a bit more (if you ever get a chance to drink with Van Lente, take it.) We then poured ourselves into bed and slept in– my Marvel signing today’s not until 6 so we’re going to have lunch and hit the show in the afternoon.
