Colleen Coover is an Eisner Award-winning comic book artist based in Portland, Oregon. Her comics include the adult title Small Favors and the all-ages Banana Sunday. She has been published by Dark Horse, Top Shelf, Marvel, and many others. She works with her husband, writer Paul Tobin, on the Eisner-winning series Bandette.
My 2012 homage to the horror tales of the comics of the 1970’s, “Rose’s Heart”, is back online! I’ve reformatted the 8-page comic into 3 parts and uploaded it to the comics app Webtoons.
The scrolling format of Webtoons was totally new to me, so the reformatting process was a challenge I really dug! The app is free to all readers, so don’t hesitate to download it to your phone or mobile device (and then search for “Colleen Coover” to find my story). There’s some really good stuff on there!
But that’s not all the news for “Rose’s Heart”! It has just been added to the freshly Kickstarter funded anthology Gothic Tales Of Haunted Love from Bedside Press!
A modern re-imagining of this genre, the stories feature a diverse range of heroes and villains from some of comics finest talent, and will likely feature a few stories of a woman in a white dress running away from a scary house.
Gothic Tales Of Haunted Love is expected out in 2018!
This is the third time Bandette has been so honored (previous years: 2013, 2016) and we could not be more proud. We thank our digital publishing company, Monkeybrain Comics, and our digital distributor, Comixology, for providing us with the platform to create the best comic we can make. We also thank Dark Horse Comics for producing beautiful hardcover print editions of Bandette.
Finally, we thank the brilliant artists who have contributed their work to the Urchin Stories series of 2-3 page backup comics, featuring the many secondary characters who populate Bandette’s world! These stories help flesh out Bandette’s friends, rivals, and enemies, and they are being posted on a weekly basis (until we run out) at Bandette.Net. Anyone wanting a taste of Bandette should navigate there immediately!
Digital issues of Bandette are available through the cross-platform Comixology app for 99¢ each!
The Dark Horse print editions are available from comic shops everywhere in the United States and Canada, as well as from your favorite online book vendors.
Here’s the full list of nominations in the category. Congratulations to all the nominees!

Bandette is the star of the show, but her world is populated by an abundance of other amusing characters. Who are they? Get to know all the supporting characters from Bandette in these short Urchin Stories: written by Paul Tobin, with art by a wealth of brilliant guest artists. Posting each Wednesday until we run out of strips.
We’re kicking off with “Theft At The Theatre!”: which is not technically an Urchin Story. The 8-page excerpt by Paul and me from Bandette #10 appeared first in Dark Horse Comic’s All Ages 2015 Free Comic Book Day offering. While the excerpt stands alone, it also serves as the first 8 pages of the Bandette story arc “The House Of The Green Mask”, reprinted in the hardcover Bandette Volume 3.
Small Favors is once again in print, now in its entirety, as a beautiful hard bound edition from Limerence Press! If you’re in Portland, Oregon on Thursday May 4, we’re going to hold a book release party and art show at Floating World Comics starting at 6pm.
A new interview is up on CBR.com about the fast approaching release of the Small Favors Definitive Collection from Limerence Press!
Small Favors will arrive in comic shops on April 26, 2017!

Goofing around with a new software application. This drawing was created with Rebelle, which simulates wet and dry media, particularly watercolor, to astonishingly lifelike effect. It’s not perfect; I haven’t found if there’s a pressure sensitive brush stroke yet, and the dry media lines have a little more jitter than I’d like. But BOY, it’s cool, and I could see using it to color something in the future.
I had a delightful chat with my old friend Chris Sims of Comics Alliance about the history of Small Favors, soon to be reprinted in its entirety by Limerence Press!
In other news, I got my first advance copies of the new hardcover and it is very classy.
Small Favors will arrive in shops on April 26, 2017. It is listed in Previews now, with the order code DEC161824.

4x speed. Sorry for the dodgy framing and my big dumb hand getting in the way!
I was having a hard time keeping a point on the brushes: a well-used Winsor & Newton size 2 and a Princeton size 0. After this panel I broke out a new W&N brush and spent far less time struggling to get a fine line! The paper is Strathmore bristol 400 series, velum surface, with inkjet blue lines. (The lighting makes them look gray in the video, but they are really a very pale cyan)
Bandette 14 is now available digitally on ComiXology, along with all the previous digital issues for 99¢ each! It can be found at the below link, or in print at your local comic book store or bookseller.
